Today the laptop has replaced the desk computer,as it is compact, portable and mobile. You can take it aboard an aircraft, on a ship or elsewhere and continue working etc. The only downside is that it has limited power. After a few hours of exploitation the battery gets low and should be re-charged for further usage. Laptop producing companies have not designed a laptop yet which can be used for a long time. nonetheless, some essential steps have been made to extend battery's life. There are three prime kinds of laptop batteries. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries were the first batteries to be re-charged. They did not cost much and had a high output. Nonetheless, they were heavy and are no longer exploited today. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) laptop batteries are unsuitable for laptops of the new generation. Their output is higher in comparison with NiCd batteries. Moreover, they are cheaper and safer. The only drawback is that they possess the so-called memory effect. If the NiMH battery has not discharged fully, it will remember it and will produce less power than it should do. Lithium Ion (LiON) laptop batteries are generally recommended to use in technically advanced models. They are lighter in comparison to NiCd and NiMH batteries and do not produce any memory effect. However, LiON batteries are quite expensive. Actually the more expensive a battery is, the more hours your laptop will work. Thus, it largely depends upon purposes you use your laptop for. Those who travel widely, need an extended power source. If it is time to replace your laptop battery, remember that it should be compatible with a laptop model, in spite of the fact that lots of batteries these days are compatible with all models. After that consider 2 major ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage should be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When purchasing a laptop battery, always look for the one with the biggest Milliamps. An external laptop battery is connected to a laptop via an AC adaptor plug which includes an adaptor, a cord plus thirteen other connectors. When purchasing an AC adapter, insure that it will suit the voltage and current output. This information is generally submitted on labels that can be found on your laptop and on the original adaptor. The character 'V' denotes voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure should be within 10% of your original adaptor voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower than the original current output. One more thing to remember is that shape of a battery and the tip dimensions of an AC adaptor should be identical to the original ones. It goes without saying that any device should be exploited properly. Laptop energy sources are no exception. Keep and exploit them correctly and they will serve you longer.
